Announcement
Since its inauguration in 2022, co-founded by HOMEKING Group Co., Ltd. and the DMR, Art & Science Research Center, Tsinghua University, and hosted by the Xiamen One Seed Domestic Workers Care Foundation, the HOME+ International Service Design Competition (HOME+ ISDC) has been successfully convened for four consecutive editions. As a prominent event in the global service design landscape, the competition has consistently advanced innovation across diverse domains—including lifestyle services, household services, social services, healthcare services, and financial services—achieving remarkable milestones and garnering substantial industry influence and social recognition.
Over the past four years, the competition has received staunch support from esteemed international organizations such as CUMULUS (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media), the Service Design Network (SDN), and the International Labour Organization (ILO). It has assembled a distinguished and multidisciplinary international jury comprising nearly 50 leading professors, scholars, and industry experts from around the world. The competition has attracted active participation from over 200 renowned academic institutions globally, including the Royal College of Art, Politecnico di Milano, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, and Jiangnan University. To date, it has collected more than 1,300 high-caliber design submissions, encompassing innovative practices across various specialized fields of service design and demonstrating the insight and creativity of emerging design talents worldwide. By 2025, the HOME+ International Service Design Competition has evolved into one of the world's largest and most professionally advanced service design events, making significant contributions to advancing the discipline, cultivating design professionals, and disseminating the principles of service design.
Amidst the competition's steady progress, the Organizing Committee has also keenly observed that over the past five years, service design—as an interdisciplinary methodology and practice—has undergone rapid global evolution and increasingly permeated core business processes and user experience optimization across a wide range of industries. In response to this trajectory, the HOME+ International Service Design Competition necessitates systematic upgrades and reforms to better address emerging industry demands, foster deeper integration between academic research and industrial practice, strengthen the closed-loop capability "from design to implementation," and further enhance the competition's leadership, professionalism, and long-term sustainability.
Accordingly, following careful and deliberate consideration, the Organizing Committee hereby announces: The call for submissions and the selection process for the fifth HOME+ International Service Design Competition, originally scheduled for 2026, are hereby suspended. The competition will now enter a comprehensive upgrade phase, focusing on optimizing its mechanism, refining evaluation criteria, deepening industry engagement, and expanding international resources, with the objective of relaunching from a more elevated starting point.
Upon completion of the upgrade process, the Organizing Committee will promptly announce the new competition schedule and participation guidelines. We cordially invite global design institutions, research organizations, industry partners, and emerging design talents to continue following and participating in future editions.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all sectors of society and every participant for their continued attention, support, and dedication to the HOME+ International Service Design Competition. This brief intermission is intended for a more impactful resurgence. We look forward to reconvening with you all in the near future with a more mature, professional, and influential platform.
