Childhood is an important period for the physical and psychological development of a person, and natural education is an essential part of children’s growth and education. With the development of technology and the evolution of educational ideas, China is gradually shifting from cultural education to a balanced emphasis on cultural and quality education. In the future, children’s play spaces should be a fun, creative, and educational environment, promoting children’s physical and mental health, enhancing their social skills, and cultivating their learning interests, becoming outdoor classrooms full of nature and fun between communities and schools.
The project takes Chengdu Guixi Ecological Park West District as an example, combining the Bashu regional characteristics of mulberry silk weaving culture with children’s play scenes. Through AR interactive game design interspersed in real-life design, multiple scenarios and stories express the educational and fun learning scenarios for children, creating outdoor classrooms based on textbook knowledge extension in the park’s children’s play landscape, and making games a bridge for emotional communication between parents and children. This project provides practical guidance and inspiration for the high-quality development of China’s game-based learning bases.
Challenge
The generation that grew up under academic pressure and electronic products has gradually lost the joy of childhood in the fields, mountains and forests. According to surveys, nearly half of primary and junior high school students in China spend less than three hours of outdoor activities per week, and this situation is getting increasingly serious. How to rebuild the connection between children and nature, create a new children's play scene that integrates social entertainment, artistic edification, and knowledge popularization, and bring the knowledge in the classroom into nature has become a question discussed in the project.
With the acceleration of urbanization and people's emphasis on children's growth environment, how to create a landscape space that integrates children's entertainment, study and education is gradually receiving attention. The policy level is also constantly promoting related development. The "Primary and Secondary School Study Trip" plan proposed in 2013 and the "Double Reduction" policy in 2021 provide better development opportunities for the design of future children's play scenes.
Process
The project is located in the west area of Chengdu Guixi Ecological Park, located in the southwest of Chengdu, 34 kilometers away from the city center and with convenient transportation. The surrounding environment is mainly the western new city development area, with features such as landmark check-in, greenway cycling and natural ecology. The surrounding area is mainly residential and educational land, and the transportation time is within half an hour, making it suitable for research and practical activities. However, the current venue has problems such as backward facilities, cramped space, conflicting activity needs, scarcity of cultural signs, and poor interactivity, which need to be improved and upgraded in a targeted manner.

The designer put forward preliminary design ideas for different types of daily children: for children who are addicted to games, combine outdoor fitness exercises and augmented reality games; for children who lack playmates, interact with virtual IP image partners by scanning QR codes. to enhance their sense of participation and companionship. However, research students encounter the problem of separation of travel and research during study tours, so they need to focus on balancing the combination of play and learning, and provide a recreational study scene with the characteristics of free exploration and team cooperation. At the same time, parents are concerned about improving their children’s cultural knowledge, while children are more pursuing a sense of participation and free exploration experience. The design should create a comprehensive scene that meets the expectations of both parties.

"Osz's Wild" Children's Play and Study Space:
In the ancient "Book of Mountains and Seas: Overseas Northern Classic", there is a story about the "Ousi Wilderness". The story tells that a woman from Shu discovered the wonderful scene of wild silkworms eating mulberry leaves and spinning silk in the vast wilderness, and learned the skills of raising silkworms and cutting silk. "Ousi Wilderness" refers to the Chengdu Plain, which is also the origin of Bashu silk. The designer hopes that children can learn about the growth environment of silkworms through this "Wild of Silk" and stimulate their curiosity and observation of nature.
The children's play and study space includes elements such as the Silkworm Baby Amusement Park, the "Cocoon-breaking Moth" playground, and the outdoor graffiti blackboard. Children can scan the QR code to enter the knowledge school and answer questions to help the silkworms grow; they can also explore around to find the hiding places of lazy little ones.

"Celestial Silkworm Lingji" Silkworm Culture Popularization Space:
In 2012, a major discovery in the Laoguanshan Han Tomb in Chengdu attracted the world's attention. A model of a jacquard loom was unearthed, and it was confirmed to be the most complete physical loom data unearthed in China and even the world. These loom models are the physical embodiment of the highest technology of brocade handicraft industry two thousand years ago, proving the historical fact of large-scale production of Shu brocade in Chengdu during the Han Dynasty. This discovery once again proves that Shu brocade, as the mother brocade of the world, has a long history and is worthy of its name, as well as the important position of Sichuan region on the Silk Road. The design is based on the theme of "Celestial Silkworm Ingenuity, Jacquard Brocade" to create a science popularization space for silkworm culture. This space allows people to relive the diligence and wisdom of the Bashu ancestors and explore the glorious history of the ancient brocade handicraft industry during the tour.
Impact
The rapid evolution of science and technology and the update of educational concepts have made people pay more and more attention to children's education and pay more attention to cultivating children's comprehensive literacy and creativity. Education not only focuses on imparting knowledge, but also focuses on cultivating students' comprehensive qualities, thinking quality and social adaptability. The project combines traditional culture with modern technology to stimulate children's interest in learning and desire to explore in innovative ways, thereby cultivating more creative and adaptable talents for future society. At the same time, the outdoor environment is transformed into an educational resource, providing a fun and inspiring place for children to learn. This innovative educational concept and design idea will help lead the future development direction of children's education and promote society to move towards a more diversified and open education system.
